Sourced through Falcon Specialty, who shared the following overview:

This coffee from Guji Megadu, comes via the producer Bette Buna - which literally translates as 'House of Coffee' - who have deep roots in the village over several generations.

Since establishing in Sidamo five years ago, Bette Buna has expanded their impact, working with local community leaders to improve farming and processing in the region, as well as managing a small farm of their own in Guji.

Megadu is part of the Shakisso Woreda of Guji and is one of Guji's most remote communities.  The region is very mountainous and densely forested.  The soil is rich and and the potential for coffee is spectacular making it one of the most exceptional coffee growing regions in the world.

Coffee production in Ethiopia accounts for about a third of the country's GDP but less than 10% of people working in coffee don't make a liveable income.  Bette Buna has set out to change that in their community, teaching farms to improve their soil and grow back agro-forest systems.

Perhaps most importantly, they distribute more than 350,000 healthy seedlings every year from their in-house nursery.  These seedlings are climate-change adapted varietals, providing the farmers who plant them an increased income, once the trees are grown.
